SEASON SERIES:The Calgary Flames and Detroit Red Wings will square off twice this season. Sunday's match-up is the first of the two-game season series and will be the Flames final visit to the Joe Louis Arena, with the Red Wings moving to the Little Caesars Arena in the 2017-18 season. In 2015-16, the Flames went 1-1-0 in their season set against the Red Wings. Mark Giordano led all skaters in scoring in the series with two goals and four points. Johnny Gaudreau trailed Giordano with three assists in two skates against Detroit.

FLAMES TEAM SCOPE: On Friday, the Flames were edged 3-2 by the Chicago Blackhawks at the Scotiabank Saddledome. Sam Bennett, who has been promoted to top line duties in the absence of Johnny Gaudreau, and Sean Monahan broke out of nine-game scoring droughts in the loss. Netminder Chad Johnson made 21 saves on the 24 shots he faced in his third straight start. Sunday's game in Detroit is the first stop on a six-game road swing that will also take the team through Buffalo, Columbus, Boston, Philadelphia, and New York.
RED WINGS TEAM SCOPE: The Red Wings are coming off a 1-0 loss to the Washington Capitals on Friday. Detroit put 25 shots on net in the setback, with forward Justin Abdelkader leading his team with four shots. The loss gives the Red Wings an 8-9-1 record and 17 points on the year. They currently sit seventh in the Atlantic Conference and are four points out of a Wildcard spot in the Eastern Conference. Henrik Zetterberg, Mike Green and Gustav Nyquist are tied for the team in scoring with three goals and 11 points each. Goaltenders Petr Mrazek and Jimmy Howard have split the starts this season. Mrazek has played in 10 games, going 4-5-1 with a 3.16 GAA and a .901 save percentage while Howard has appeared in eight games and has a 4-4-0 record with a 1.71 GAA and a .945 save percentage.
